Terror by Night is a 1946 American film directed by Roy William Neill. It stars Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as a private detective and a physician who investigate a murder and diamond theft on board a train. Three earlier installments in the series—Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon, Sherlock Holmes Faces Death, and Pursuit to Algiers—also appear in The Clock. The film is based on the Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, which were also the inspiration for the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes.
