Safety Last! is a 1923 American romantic comedy film directed by Fred C. Newmeyer and Sam Taylor. It stars Harold Lloyd as a store clerk who organizes a contest to climb a tall building and must complete the dangerous stunt himself when his friend fails to appear.

  • 7:52 a.m. An Elgin pocketwatch in the boy's (Harold Lloyd) hand displays the time.
  • 8:10 a.m. A man holds the boy, disguised as a mannequin, over his shoulder. The boy adjusts the time on a clock from 8:00 to 8:10.
  • 1:00 p.m. An alarm bell rings.
  • 1:44 p.m. Bill (Bill Strother) checks his pocketwatch, an Ingersoll Yankee, while sitting and waiting in the employee entrance.
  • 2:45 p.m.2:47 p.m. Bill opens a window, inadvertently lifting the boy in the process. The boy climbs onto a clock, hanging onto the hands as a crowd watches from below. The face starts to come off, so Bill lowers a rope. When Bill pulls the rope up, it slips through the boy's hands, leaving him hanging on the bricks of the building. He stands on the face of the clock and tries to climb up but gets tangled in a coil attached to the clock.
