Insomnia is a 2002 American thriller film directed by Christopher Nolan. The film stars Al Pacino and Hilary Swank as detectives sent to investigate a murder in a town where the sun doesn't set. It is a remake of the 1997 Insomnia, which also appears in The Clock.

  • 3:58 a.m. Lying in bed, Detective Will Dormer (Al Pacino) puts a digital alarm clock into a drawer.
  • 4:17 a.m. A ringing phone wakes Dormer, and he answers. The caller refuses to identify himself and asks Dormer he got rid of his clock yet. Dormer opens a drawer with the clock in it. The caller tells Dormer he witnessed the detective shoot his partner.
  • 7:30 a.m. The clock changes from 7:29 to 7:30, and Dormer, already awake, turns off the alarm. He sets his badge on top of the clock.
  • 8:03 a.m. Dormer grabs his badge from on top of the clock. He leaves while Rachel Clement (Maura Tierney) is asleep.
