Back to the Future is a 1985 American science fiction film directed by Robert Zemeckis. It tells the story of a high school student accidentally sent thirty years into the past by an eccentric scientist.

Before using the film for The Clock, Christian Marclay included it in his 2002 installation Video Quartet. The other films in the series, Back to the Future Part II and Back to the Future Part III, also appear in The Clock.

  • 7:53 a.m.7:54 a.m. Dozens of clocks are shown, as a set of machines start making breakfast.[1]
  • 8:00 a.m. In a lab, clocks strike the hour.[1]
  • 8:25 a.m. Doc (Christopher Lloyd) tells Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) over the phone that it's 8:25 a.m. Marty realizes he's late for school.
  • 10:28 a.m. An alarm clock flips from 10:27 to 10:28 and plays "Back in Time" by Huey Lewis and the News. Marty wakes up on his bed.
  • 9:59 p.m. The clock on the courthouse is seen during a storm.
  • 10:03 p.m.10:04 p.m. Doc drops down from the courthouse as Marty races to make it. Lightning strikes the tower.
